JMF hosts School Gala Days

Congratulations to the Kuranda and Tennant Creek John Moriarty Football (JMF) teams for their successful school gala days held in September 2021.

The aim of the school gala days were to improve access to football and its benefits for Indigenous students, provide more competitive sporting opportunities, allow participants to learn and demonstrate the JMF values of resilience, teamwork, leadership, respect and sportsmanship, as well as support their health and wellbeing.

The JMF Kuranda team held two school gala days at Endeavour Park in Manunda, including a junior day on 1 September for around 70 students from:

  • Kuranda District College
  • Mareeba State School
  • Gordonvale State School
  • Yarrabah State School
  • Mossman State School

Then on 8 September a senior day for around 40 students from:

  • Kuranda District College
  • Mareeba State High School
  • Yarrabah State School

The JMF Tennant Creek team held their school gala day on 2 September with around 40 students from:

  • Tennant Creek Primary School
  • Tennant Creek High School
  • Mungkarta School

The full day events included activities such as round robin style football tournaments as well as workshops on nutrition and wellbeing.

Thank you to all the JMF coaches, students, teachers, schools and volunteers who made these days so successful. We look forward to running many more gala days in the future.
