Indi Kindi educator wins award

Congratulations Indi Kindi Borroloola educator Yanyuwa woman Andrea Norman on being awarded Outstanding Aboriginal Educator in the Northern Territory Education and Care Awards.

Andrea is Indi Kindi’s longest-serving employee of 7 years. As a role model, change-maker and leader in the community, Andrea has played a huge role in the success of Indi Kindi. Her commitment to supporting under 5s in their development is an inspiration.

Our local educators are change-makers. More than 40% have been with Indi Kindi for 4+ years, which is double the average retention rate of childcare workers and exceeds Australian women’s workforce participation figures by more than 40%.

Indi Kindi has a strong focus on building local staff capacity through mentoring, skills development and formal qualifications. Each educator has the opportunity to study a Certificate 3 in Early Childhood Education and Care at the Batchelor Institute of TAFE in Darwin. This study involves online modules and regularly travelling to Darwin to attend assessments and workshops. Andrea was the first Indi Kindi educator to complete her studies and graduated in 2022.
