Indi Kindi commences Mungkarta delivery

Indi Kindi bus in Mungkarta NT

As part of our expansion of Indi Kindi, we are very proud to announce the start of delivery to Mungkarta, 80 kilometres south of Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory.

Our brand new team of Indi Kindi educators have spent the past few weeks participating in intensive training to develop a program tailored to the local needs of the community’s children and families.

The first session, held on Tuesday, 3 August at Bonney Well just outside of Mungkarta, was a great success. The children and families that attended all enjoyed Indi Kindi’s unique multi-sensory ‘Walking Learning’ model delivered on Country.

Anthea Graham, Indi Kindi educator said, “They loved having space to run around and explore and it was a change for them to see new things. It was great to be outside and smell the bush, the spinifex smell is especially strong in winter.”

Other highlights from the first session included:

  • The children had fun naming Australian animals in local language
  • Everyone enjoyed being outside and exploring the creek
  • The children were confident and engaged in the outdoor group setting, doing lots of yarning and asking questions.

At every Indi Kindi session the team prepares a hot, nutritious midday meal. For the second session on Thursday, 5 August at Karlu Karlu, the team prepared a beef stir fry with vegetables and brown rice for the children and families to enjoy.

“For some of the Indi Kindi educators, mothers and children, it was their first time eating brown rice. Everyone loved it, the kids asked for seconds! They enjoyed the taste and knowing that it was healthy,” said Indi Kindi educator, Renatta Morrison.

Indi Kindi sessions will be initially offered on Country in and around the Mungkarta community every Tuesday and Thursday as the program rolls out. All under 5s and their families are welcome to join.
