JMF Kuranda starts weekly breakfast club

Congratulations to the John Moriarty Football (JMF) Kuranda team for starting a weekly Breakfast Club at Kuranda District State College.

Students are able to attend a before school football session which is followed by a nutritious breakfast. What an awesome way to start the day!

Moriarty Foundation prepares over 12,000 nutritious meals each year to its JMF and Indi Kindi participants. These include lunches, dinners, morning and afternoon teas and breakfasts. Together with nutrition training, these initiatives are breaking down the barriers to healthy eating for Indigenous children.

According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, Indigenous children aged 2–3 are 3.1 times as likely as non‑Indigenous children to have consumed soft drinks and flavoured mineral waters. Further, only 3.2% of Indigenous children aged 4-14 years ate the recommended daily intake of vegetables.
