Prof. Gail Garvey

Overview

Goori woman Professor Garvey is a NHMRC Research Leadership Fellow and Professor of Indigenous Health Research, School of Public Health, The University of Queensland.

She has established a targeted research program focused on cancer and the wellbeing of Australia’s First Nations people. She currently leads a National Health and Medical Research Council Centre of Research Excellence in targeted approaches to improve cancer services for Indigenous Australians. Her wellbeing research is focused on understanding the experiences, beliefs and values that influence Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ wellbeing across the lifespan.

Professor Garvey has an extensive track record in mentoring and supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and researchers.
