Overview
Renee Wootton Tomlin (Tharawal) is a pioneering aerospace engineer, pilot, and entrepreneur committed to building a more sustainable and inclusive future. As the Founder and CEO of Wattara Energy, an Indigenous-majority venture developing Australia’s first First Nations-led Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) projects, Renee is advancing a new model of climate action that unites technology, culture, and community benefit.
A former Director of New Market Development at LanzaJet, Renee led global efforts to scale SAF production and policy partnerships across the Asia-Pacific, UK, and Americas. Her experience spans aviation, renewable fuels, and climate innovation — bridging corporate, government, and not-for-profit sectors to create commercially viable and environmentally regenerative solutions.
Beyond her executive leadership, Renee is a sought-after keynote speaker and advocate for Indigenous participation in STEM and clean energy. She co-hosts the Promoted Podcast, inspiring emerging leaders through conversations on purpose, resilience, and career growth.
Now based in Darwin, Renee continues to mentor young professionals and work with communities to strengthen pathways into aviation, engineering, and sustainability. Her work reflects a deep belief that cultural knowledge, innovation, and equity must be at the centre of Australia’s transition to a cleaner future.
