Wrap up of Indigenous Football Week 2021

Thank you to everyone involved in Indigenous Football Week 2021 (IFW21).

Millions of people participated and showed their support for transforming gender equality in football.

Whether it was our Facebook Live sessions, girls football fitness online workshop, community gala days, or pledging support on social media, it was a powerful celebration of the power of football to unlock the potential of Indigenous girls and women and improve gender equality.

Thank you to all our special guests who joined us live on Facebook to take a deep dive into gender equality issues of women in football leadership and specific intersectional challenges and opportunities in football for Indigenous girls and women.

Take a look at our Facebook Live sessions:

John Moriarty Football is committed to taking a leadership role on gender equality. Currently, 50% of our participants are girls, 40% of our coaches are female, 75% of our board are women, and we are always striving for improvement and creating best practice for gender and social equality in football.

During IFW21, JMF launched its three level approach to continue building on its best practice for diversity, equality and inclusion.

  1. A holistic training and development program to fast track more women into leadership.
  2. Flexible, safe and supportive work environments to drive equal opportunity for mothers.
  3. Awareness and culturally safe channels for proactive gender equality communications and respect.

Over the past months JMF has undertaken a significant gender equality project to build on our own organisation’s best practice when it comes to diversity, equality and inclusion. The entire JMF team has collaborated on this project. We commissioned former Matilda, Olympian and leading sport and innovation strategy expert, Tal Karp, to help us create diversity tools and commitments that will be embedded into business as usual at JMF.

We are grateful for the support of our valued partners: A-Leagues, Professional Footballers Australia, Football Coaches Australia, SBS Australia, SBS The World Game, NITV, and FOX Sports Australia.

Thank you also to our IFW21 Ambassadors, JMF coaches, head office teams, partner schools, football clubs, and supporters for ensuring another great Indigenous Football Week. You make it possible for us to continually shine a light on the contribution of Indigenous footballers and improve access and fair treatment for all players.
