ROLE: Social and Emotional Wellbeing Community Coordinator (Darwin)

  • A life changing opportunity to regularly visit a remote NT community and utilise your skills in social and emotional wellbeing to positively impact the education, health and wellbeing of young Aboriginal children.
  • Based in Darwin with extensive travel to Borroloola, NT
  • Full-time 12 month fixed term contract

About us

Sydney-headquartered ACCO (Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation) Moriarty Foundation was established in 2012 by Yanyuwa NT man John Moriarty, a business owner/Indigenous advocate/cultural leader, and business owner/author/social investor Ros Moriarty. We enable NT, NSW and QLD Aboriginal communities and families to unlock their children’s potential.

We tailor our approach to meet local challenges and needs in communities, with local employment and staff development at the centre of our sustainability. Moriarty Foundation delivers two programs that follow the whole-of-child lifecycle from birth to 18, Indi Kindi (early years program) and John Moriarty Football (football skills mastery program).

About the job

We have an exciting position for a Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) Community Coordinator to lead the planning, implementation and evaluation of a valuable new Moriarty Foundation initiative. It is a community-driven, culturally responsive social and emotional wellbeing program in conjunction with our programs in Borroloola, NT. Building on the strong foundation of Moriarty Foundation’s local presence and programs, the coordinator will work in partnership with community members, elders, local organisations, and allied health services to deliver initiatives that promote healing, resilience, cultural connection and empowerment.

The role is pivotal in ensuring that social and emotional wellbeing strategies are integrated across our Indi Kindi and John Moriarty Football programs, while also coordinating related SEWB-focused activities that respond to local priorities and strengths.

A key focus of this role is to support diversity, inclusion and cultural awareness, together with engagement and participation of local community members.

For this hybrid role, you will be based in Darwin with extensive travel to Borroloola. There will be a mix of short and long stays that will be agreed with you and your managers to support the coordination of SEWB activities.

Key responsibilities

  • Program coordination and delivery – design, deliver and evaluate SEWB activities that are aligned with community aspirations, cultural protocols and Moriarty Foundation structures.
  • Community engagement and consultation – foster ongoing consultation with community members, elders, Community Advisory Groups and local stakeholders to ensure programs reflect community needs and priorities.
  • Capacity building and staff support – provide advisory and wellbeing support; support participation in training and mentoring to build capacity in our local teams.
  • Partnership development – strengthen existing partnerships with local and regional health and community based organisations.
  • Integration with existing programs – embed SEWB strategies into Moriarty Foundation program activities.
  • Monitor, evaluate and report – prepare regular reports for Moriarty Foundation leadership and funding partners.
